Sarah Welbourn

I obtained my Ph.D. in Biochemistry from McGill University in Montreal, Canada focusing on the characterisation of the Hepatis C Virus NS2 and NS2/3 proteins and their roles in viral replication. I then moved to the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda for a postdoc in Dr. Klaus Strebel’s lab working on lentiviral (HIV, SIV) accessory proteins and their associated cellular host restriction factors, with a main focus on the SAMHD1 protein. After an interesting detour into HIV vaccines/antibodies working at the Emory Vaccine Center I am excited to be moving back into the molecular side of things, applying my virology experience to some new viruses and expanding my knowledge of RNA biochemistry.  Time outside the lab is mostly spent keeping an energetic 4 year old busy and exploring parks, playgrounds and walking trails.
