Anna-Lena Steckelberg

I grew up in Germany and earned my PhD from the University of Cologne. I discovered my love for RNA as a graduate student in the lab of Niels Gehring, where I studied the splicing-dependent assembly of RNA-protein complexes. I trained as a postdoc in the lab of Jeffrey Kieft at the University of Colorado, studying how viruses use RNA structure to manipulate the cellular RNA degradation machinery. I continues to be fascinated by the elegant strategies employed by viruses to hijack cellular RNA metabolism and strive to deepen our molecular understanding of RNA-protein interactions at the host-virus interface. Outside of the lab, I love to climb, run, hike, backpack, ski and any other activity that allows me to spend time in nature.
